Moving Art: Where Art Meets Mass-Based Organizing

February 2017 – DRUM members and leaders launched Moving Art, an arts & organizing program led by Arts & Cultural Justice Organizer Mahira Raihan. Moving Art is a program to build the leadership of cultural workers at DRUM who are also engaged in organizing their communities, and to develop cultural work for DRUM grounded in mass base organizing, movement-building, and the stories and experiences of our members.

In the first weeks of Moving Art, we built our consciousness of the artist’s role in organizing and movements, understanding how our culture is a weapon we can use to fight for the world we want to see, and how we can begin to produce art grounded in collective work and vision.
