Major Victory: Citizenship Question Blocked from 2020 Census!
DRUM members have been agitating and organizing against the citizenship question for nearly a year! From mass public education, to gathering comments for the public commentary period, court mobilizations, to media work.
The citizenship question on the 2020 census would have endangered the safety of our communities at a time of such an anti-immigrant administration, and even moreso, deprived our communities of federal funding and political representation due to the undercounting resulting from the fear caused by it.
The case will go back to NY courts, and give Trump administration and Commerce Department another opportunity to offer up an excuse/reason for the Citizenship Q, but they will not be able to meet the June 30 timeline to get it on the 2020 Census.
CONGRATS to all who organized and and all who litigated against the citizenship question, and for democratic principles!
