DRUM stands in Solidarity with Migrant Workers in Greece and the Greek People
In the wake of growing strength of the extreme right wing Golden Dawn party in Greece, and the increasing racist and xenophobic attacks on migrant workers, DRUM members joined a protest outside the Greek Consulate to demand justice. A Pakistani migrant worker, Shahzad Luqman was recently killed in racist and xenophobic attack.
My name is Kazi Fouzia, and I am a community organizer with DRUM – Desis Rising Up & Moving. DRUM is an organization of 1500 low-income South Asian immigrants, workers, and youth fighting for justice. As immigrant workers, we are here to stand in solidarity with migrant workers, and the people of Greece, and against the right-wing.
As an immigrant worker, I know the struggles and pains of our brothers and sisters in Greece. In fact, we know we are in a better position here than the immigrant workers in Greece. Many of those workers travel by foot, land and sea from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanisatn, Arab, and African countries to get to Greece. If they don’t lose their lives in that journey, they end up facing police brutality or working in very dangerous conditions to survive. Now they are also facing violence from the racists and fascists.
But the migrants in Greece are not staying quiet. They are fighting back! We are here to stand alongside to fight with them!
We have a chant back home, which means long live the struggle.
I say: Inquilaab!
You say: Zindabaad!
Inquilaab! Zindabaad!
Inquilaab! Zindabaad!
Inquilaab! Zindabaad!
