Join us on Wednesday July 28th in celebrating the launch of our youth-led community report on undocumented student access to education- Immigrant Safe Zones.  In 2006, DRUM published the “Education Not Deportation- The Impacts of School Safety Policies on South Asian Immigrant Students in New York City” highlighting recommendations for decreasing over-reliance on policing and implementation of transformative justice policies in NYC public high schools. Building onto this report, youth members have set out to update the findings and emphasize to the city that our schools are not safe for undocumented and immigrant youth. This report shows diverse student voices from across the city and how anti-immigrant policies impact every day life in schools and access to real education.

For this report, our youth members collaborated with the Advancement Project and have collected 543 surveys throughout 50 different high schools, in-depth interviews, and focus groups with undocumented and documented youth who attend public high schools from the ages of 14-19. DRUM has been organizing hundreds of South Asian undocumented immigrant youth for over ten years who have led the struggle for a DREAM Act without military de-facto drafting and community service options for students who cannot afford college. Come hear our recommendations to the city and policy makers about dignity and rights for immigrant students!

Followed by:
