Immigrants Demanding Police Accountability from NYC to Ferguson
In light of the emerging videos of NYPD’s use of violence against New Yorkers, including the resulting death of Eric Garner, DRUM members joined CPR and people from across the city to call for an end to police abuse and “Broken Windows” policing. Since the appointment of the new NYPD Commissioner Bratton in January 2014, our communities have seen massive increases in stops and arrests or summons of youth of color, cab drivers, street vendors, homeless people, and street and subway performers.
In light of the police actions in Ferguson, Missouri, DRUM youth and adult members held study sessions on policing, race, and militarization, and decided to organize an action to express immigrant solidarity with Mike Brown, the communities of Ferguson, and with all lives lost to police violence.
